Today I’m playing Doom VFR on PS4 Pro.
Doom is based on doom 2016 but is NOT the same game just in VR. It has its own story line and is built specifically for VR.
It has good graphics, sound and gameplay. For me the game kicks in to classic rip and tear gameplay towards the end of the game and that’s when the game is at its best. Up until that point you don’t fight too many enemies and most levels feel too light on monsters.
I wish the game either picked up pace sooner or lasted longer.
The game mitigates this slightly by including classic Doom 1 and Doom 2 maps as secrets you can collect. These are awesome and Super nostalgic, I’d actually RE buy original Doom made in VR.
All 3 current control options suck in their own way.
Dual shock is least immersive and you aim with your face.
Aim controller is best all round but your left arm is glued to your shoulder and your main gun lags behind you.
The moves are the most immersive offering independent control of each arm, but it’s teleportation only and dashing, but you can only turn 180 degrees which makes the game unplayable in my opinion with this method.
All in all a good game priced correctly for the content it offers. I’d just wish I could see more of it, and it needs a patch to improve the controls. Get rid of aim controller lag and allow smooth movement and turning with the move controllers..
